If you’re thinking of buying a home in Minnesota  and are looking for a great community to call home, then look no farther than Detroit Lakes. This is especially true if you love the great outdoors.

This part of the state is devoted to outdoor recreation and exploration. This is where the 500-mile International Pine to Prairie Trail starts that goes up to Winnipeg, Canada.  There’s also the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge which has 20 lakes, rivers, and swamps with marked hiking trails.  There’s also 250 miles of groomed snowmobile trails and spaces for cross-country skiing. And for the fishing enthusiast, there’s ice fishing on most of the lakes.

And for great skiing, there's the all-new Detroit Mountain.  It was originally a family owned alpine ski operation, but closed in 2004. After it closed, the local community discussed how to revitalize it into a year-round recreational facility. Detroit Mountain was reborn from this vision to include an all new terrain park, tubing hill, and cross country ski trails.

And if you want to spend some time indoors, then you can enjoy hockey, ice skating, and curling at the Kent Freeman Sports Arena. Or go for a swim and work out at the Detroit Lakes Community and Cultural Center.

There’s no shortage of things to do in the great outdoors in Detroit Lakes. Search for a home now. Here’s a preview of the homes for sale in Detroit Lakes on our website.
